Nutella Mousse Mini Pies

Now, there is nothing more satisfyingly indulgent than Nutella. Let’s be honest, we’ve all taken a sneaky spoonful straight from the jar once or many times. But with this recipe, we have created a perfect, two-bite dish ideal for serving all your party guests.

This dessert starts with a classic pastry crust. Cut together butter, flour and shortening to create the dough. Once formed, press into a muffin tin and bake until golden.

To make the oh-so-delicious mousse, whip heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar and vanilla until soft peaks form. Gently fold in Nutella - the star of the show - along with a few additional teaspoons of powdered sugar. Chill the mixture once complete.

Next, melt down additional shortening and chocolate chips. Use this chocolate to coat the bottoms of your unfilled pastry cups, creating a classic black and white effect.

Once the cups are dry, layer in the mousse and top with a sumptuous helping of homemade whipped cream piped on top.

And there you have it! The perfect dessert for entertaining right at home. Your guests will rave about the delicious, airy, yet not overly-sweet mini pies all evening.

Quick tip! Save one (or a few) for Sunday morning with coffee. Because who says you can’t have pie for breakfast? ;)

Nutella Mousse Mini Pies

2 cups heavy whipping cream
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
3 tbsp powdered sugar
3/4 cup Nutella
3 tbsp powdered sugar

2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup + 1 tbsp shortening
1 cup chocolate chips


Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  2. Blend flour, butter, and shortening with a pastry cutter until dough forms. Add water by teaspoon if the dough crumbles. 

  3. Press dough into a greased muffin tin. Press into the bottom and up the sides to create a bowl. Bake 8-10 minutes. Place on cooling rack and chill. 

  4. Mix heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla. Mix on high with a whisk attachment for about 3 minutes or until stiff peaks form. Reserve half. 

  5. Lightly fold Nutella and powdered sugar into the rest of the whipped cream. Fill one pastry bag with Mousse, and another with whipped cream. 

  6. Melt 1 tbsp shortening and chocolate chips in microwave at 15 second intervals, stirring constantly. When chocolate is smooth, dip chilled crust cups about half way into the chocolate. Let excess chocolate drip off, place on parchment paper and chill.  

  7. Fill pie cups with mousse and top with whipped cream. chill until served.
